Founded by Sarah and Chris Pittenger in 2009, Gros Ventre Cellars is a small, family-owned winery operating out of Healdsburg, CA. We produce about 2,000 cases of wine, including vineyard-designated Pinot noir from the West Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley, and several wines from the El Dorado region.
In the winery, minimal handling and intervention is the goal. The wine’s evolution includes native fermentation, gentle punch downs, no extended maceration, no lees stirring, no additives outside of minimal sulfur and yeast nutrients, and no fining or filtration. Depending on the vintage, the wine typically ages for 11 months on its lees in a maximum of 25% new French oak (with the exception of the First Born cuvee).
Varietals: 38% Sauvignon Blanc, 28% Chenin, 12% Vermentino, 11% Picpoul, 11% Fiano
The SB is from Calaveras, the Chenin from Clarksburg, the others from El Dorado. Spontaneous fermentation at cold temperature in stainless steel tank for about 3-4 weeks. Aged in neutral French oak and stainless barrels for 8 months prior to blending and bottling. 300 cases produced.
SUSTAINABLE. LOW-SULFITE. VEGAN. MINIMAL INTERVENTION.
