The Grapillon d'or estate evokes an authentic family story. The CHAUVET family goes back to around 1630, half way through the 17th century and the first winemaker Chauvet appear around 1703. Created in 1806, the property has remained in the hands of the Chauvet family to date.
For the past 40 years, Bernard has managed and successfully developed the wine estate. He is now assisted by his daughter, Céline CHAUVET (for 20 years), who manages the delicate process of vinification as well as the business management of the estate.
Since 1893, the date when the Chauvet Family received its first "gold medal" at the General Agricultural Fair in Paris, the estate's wines have been regularly rewarded. Our Domaine has been awarded the highest accolade "Laureat du Prix d'Excellence 2012 "chosen from all the wines in the Rhone Valley. This award has been obtained because we have won the largest number of Gold Medals at the "Concours Général Agricole" for the last three years.
TERROIR : The vineyard is essentially situated on the plateau of Vacqueyras. The soil is composed of pebbles and clayish-limestone. Yield is 36hl/ha.
GRAPE VARIETIES: 70% Grenache, 30% Syrah
VINIFICATION: Harvest is done manually with sorting and de-stemming done by hand. Maceration lasts around 12 days and the juice is neither fined nor filtered. It is then matured in vats for 12 months.
