About us

D.Vino is a boutique wine store located on Prospect Park in Prospect Lefferts Garden that focuses on small-production, low-Intervention and handcrafted wines and spirits. We pride ourselves on our large selection of natural, biodynamic, organic, vegan and low sulfite wines as well as our growing orange wine collection.

Our producers are small, family-owned vineyards. Long before organic was a “thing,” these dedicated families used alternative agricultural practices—producing their wine with minimal intervention in the cellar. They take a mindful approach to wine-making through organic or biodynamic farming systems, sustainable agricultural practices, efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, responsible use of water, fair labor practices and safe working conditions. In this spirit, you’ll notice our “Thoughtful” wine category when visiting our store and website.

We offer local delivery service nightly as well as special delivery services (i.e. cases, out of the local area) with advance notice. If you are looking for an ideal opportunity to try new wines, join us for wine tastings every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 6 pm – 8 pm. See our Upcoming Tastings section for updated info. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram for specials and surprise events.

NATURAL WINE is farmed organically (biodynamically, using permaculture or the like) and made (or rather transformed) without adding or removing anything in the cellar. No additives or processing aids are used, and ‘intervention’ in the naturally occurring fermentation process is kept to a minimum. As such neither fining nor (tight) filtration are used. The result is a living wine—wholesome and full of naturally occurring microbiology. Minimal Intervention wines meet most of the criteria of a natural wine but not all. Check our selection of Natural wines.

VEGAN WINES use fining agents that are animal-friendly such as bentonite or are simply not fined and filtered and left to self-clarify and self-stabilize. During the winemaking process, the liquid is filtered through substances called “fining agents.” This process is used to remove protein, yeast, cloudiness, “off” flavors and colorings, and other organic particles (all perfectly natural and in no way harmful). Popular animal-derived fining agents used in the production of wine include blood and bone marrow, casein (milk protein), chitin (fiber from crustacean shells), egg albumen (derived from egg whites), fish oil, gelatin (protein from boiling animal parts), and isinglass (gelatin from fish bladder membranes). We offer a nice selection of Vegan wines.

BIODYNAMIC is similar to organic farming in that both take place without synthetic chemicals, but biodynamic farming incorporates ideas about a vineyard as an entire ecosystem, and also takes into account things such as astrological influences and lunar cycles. A biodynamic wine means that the grapes are farmed biodynamically, and that the winemaker did not make the wine with any common manipulations such as yeast additions or acidity adjustments. A wine “made from biodynamic grapes” means that a vintner used biodynamically grown grapes, but followed a less strict list of rules in winemaking. Take a look at the Biodynamic wines we offer.

ORANGE WINE is a type of white wine made by leaving the grape skins and seeds in contact with the juice, creating a deep orange-hued finished product. Orange winemaking is a very natural process that uses little to no additives. Due to the type of their production, they pair well with meals one would normally suggest for red wine but are considered the perfect companion for traditional sushi and sashimi. Check our Orange wine selection.
